Symposium: Engaging in Digital Futures

Participants of the symposium: Experiencing the digital future
The advancement of digital sciences and artificial intelligence (AI) has reshaped numerous aspects of modern society, yet understanding these complex systems remains a challenge for the general public. Bridging this gap is essential for fostering informed societal discussions about the transformative potential, risks, and ethical implications of these technologies. This symposium, at the computer science faculty building of the TU Dresden, seeks to bring together leading actors who specialize in exhibiting digital science and AI for non-expert audiences, establishing a platform for networking, collaboration, and innovation.
The 1-day-symposium is the start of this endeavor highlighting two primary objectives:
Firstly, participants engaged in an exchange of ideas, insights, and actual exhibits. By showcasing interactive installations, immersive digital experiences, and educational tools, the symposium will facilitate the sharing of best practices and successful strategies for demystifying AI and digital science and for making the audience curious. This exchange aimed to inspire participants to adapt or adopt existing solutions to enhance public engagement in their respective institutions.
Secondly, the symposium served as an incubator for the development of new ideas. Through collaborative sessions, attendees explored innovative approaches to creating interactive exhibits that translate complex scientific concepts into accessible, engaging formats. A particular focus will be placed on designing tools that not only educate but also provoke critical thinking and dialogue. These exhibits will aim to empower the public to understand and assess the opportunities and risks associated with cutting-edge technologies, fostering a culture of informed decision-making and participation.
By gathering scientists, educators, exhibit designers and exhibitors, this symposium aspired to create a network dedicated to advancing science communication in the digital age. It will promote a collective effort to build bridges between technical expertise and public understanding, ensuring that the transformative potential of AI and digital sciences can be responsibly harnessed for the benefit of all.
