Symposium | The Experimental Museum | November 9–10, 2026
“The Experimental Museum” is a symposium dedicated to exploring the museum as a site of experimentation. It begins with the observation that museums, while traditionally places of conservation, are often sites of rich technological, social and artistic experimentation. How and why might a museum serve as a laboratory? What kinds of experiments emerge?
As part of a continuing collaboration between Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) and the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD), we invite experts from a wide range of disciplines to discuss manifestations of technological, political, artistic, curatorial, experiential, educational, theatrical and social experimentation in museum contexts. Speakers include Sarah Kenderdine, Orit Halpern, Christopher Salter, Erik Champion, Nora Al-Badri, Gabriel Menotti, Priscila Arantes, Elisabeth Ramm, Pablo Dornhege, Anders Sundnes Løvlie, Andrew Ahachinsky, Pia Schramm, Ruairi O'Brien, Peggy Schoenegge, Jinran Ha, Henrietta Y. Mansfeld.
Please join us for engaging presentations, inspiring project case studies, and stimulating discussions on topics spanning museology, science and technology studies, computer science, experience design, theater and art, as well as cultural studies and theory. Connect with an international community of experts, gain fresh perspectives on emerging approaches, and discover new inspiration for your own research, professional practice, or creative work.
Look forward to exciting presentations, inspiring project examples, and stimulating discussions at the intersections of museology, science and technology studies, computer science, experience design, theater, and art, as well as cultural studies and theory.
The symposium offers the opportunity to exchange ideas with an international community of experts, gain new perspectives on innovative approaches, and take away inspiration for your own research, professional practice, or creative work.
