Worry Gallery paper published
Our new paper "Pilot study of an anxiety induction method applying generative artificial intelligence and mixed reality" is now published in the Journal of Anxiety Disorders.
With this work, we illustrate the Worry Gallery, a novel concept that leverages generative AI to create personalized, worry-depicting visual content, presented through our Multi-User Mixed Reality system. In a pilot study with 34 healthy adults, we found that AI-generated personalized worry images induced higher subjective anxiety and shifted affect compared to neutral images, particularly when depictions were perceived as more realistic and accurate.
Given the rapid advances in generative AI, we anticipate a future in which such content becomes increasingly lifelike and precise, allowing stimuli to be individually tailored to a person's specific worries, and ultimately opening new avenues for anxiety research and, potentially, clinical applications.
