Expansion of Internet measurement probes
At the TUD Chair of Distributed and Networked Systems, we are committed to improve the Internet. Therefore, we operate and maintain relevant research infrastructure. We now host two more external, active Internet measurement probes, a RIPE Atlas Anchor and an USC LightScope probe.
RIPE Atlas Anchor
RIPE Atlas is a global network of devices, called probes and anchors, that actively measure Internet connectivity. Anchors are RIPE Atlas probes designed to be installed in a highly-available network and physical environment to operate as a stable measurement device. They are powerful Internet measurement devices which are not suitable for use in home networks.
RIPE Atlas anchors are both enhanced RIPE Atlas probes with more measurement capacity, as well as regional measurement targets within the greater RIPE Atlas network. They are able to perform many more measurements than a regular RIPE Atlas probe, and the large amount of data they collect is made available to everyone.
USC LightScope
LightScope is free, open source software that gathers data for graduate cybersecurity research at the University of Southern California ISI. Those who deploy it are rewarded with rich threat intelligence about who's targeting their systems and how. The threat intelligence LightScope provides to users is enhanced through research partnerships with ipinfo, greynoise, and abuseIPDB.
