Lecture "Computer Architecture and Hardware Lab"
Applicability:
This lecture is aimed at students of the reformed Bachelor of Computer Science and Diplom Computer Science degree programs (enrollment from winter semester 2025).
Contents:
Contents of the module are the construction and analysis of simple analog and digital circuits, such as RC circuits, combinational circuits and flip-flops, sequential and automata-controlled circuits and the Von Neumann architecture.
Based on these necessary fundamentals of computer technology, the module also covers the structure and function of the individual components of a computer structure, their organization and interaction. This knowledge is acquired by way of example, starting with the realization of switching networks and switching units at gate level, the representation, coding and processing of information, the instruction set as a link to the software through to the components of a computer such as the control unit, arithmetic unit, registers and memory. The various types of parallelism, networking and performance evaluations of complex computer systems are also included in the module.
Schedule:
The lecture takes place in the summer semester. The course consists of 3 SWS lectures, 2 SWS exercises and 2 SWS lab.
