Right Before your Studies
Your last day at school was a long time ago and you enjoy the longest summer of your life, but soon it is going to be autumn and you start thinking about what will happen after this summer: sometime or other you decided for yourself that you would like to continue maths and natural sciences after school and that you would like to construct great machines as a real engineer. Therefore, you enrolled yourself for “Mechanical Engineering”, “Material Sciences”, or for “Process and Natural Product Engineering” at the faculty of “Mechanical Engineering” at the Technical University of Dresden. Then, you received, or still will receive, a letter from the matriculation office with some important information. But what will happen now?
Your studies start in the middle of October. You can find the exact start date here.
But before? No worries, this will not be a jump into the deep end! Before you start your studies, the university and student representatives offer a lot of introductory events.
If you were a year abroad or of you did something else after school, or if you dropped a subject at school, or maybe you feel a bit uncertain about your scientific knowledge and you need a brush-up, you have the possibility to attend a pre-course, the so-called bridging course, in maths, chemistry, and physics for free. Furthermore, the university offers paid preparatory courses for Engineering.
One week before the lectures start, the faculty council (FSR) offers you theFreshmen Introduction (ESE). This introduction consists of a lot of events that help you to get to know the university, Dresden, and your fellow students. During this week, an important appointment takes place: the enrolment into the seminar groups where you get your timetable and you get to know your “class”. You can find all the events of this week here.
And to not lose track between all the moving boxes, appointments, important documents, number, and all the other stuff, here is an overall view with all the important things that must be done by the beginning of your studies:
