Chair of Energy Storage Systems
The chair of energy storage systems strives to contribute to the creation of a sustainable energy supply system by means of innovation in research and education.
This includes:
- Scientific and technical solutions for a fast diffusion of renewable energies (e.g. sun, wind) using energy storage
- Increasing the efficiency of primary and secondary energy conversion processes through energy storage
- Prolonging component lifetime employing energy storage to reduce static and dynamic fatigue
These targets can be achieved using a broad spectrum of electrical, mechanical, thermal and chemical energy storage technologies (also by combining them with additional flexibility options like smart grids and demand side management).
Main research focus:
- Experimental investigation, modelling, simulation and optimisation of energy storage and energy conversion components as well as hybrid energy storage systems
- Models and methods allowing the system analysis of different energy storage technologies as well as their holistic evaluation in energetic, material, economic and ecological terms
- Development of new optimising structuring and design processes as well as model based, optimal, predictive and adaptive control and energy management approaches for innovative energy storage applications in distributed and centralized energy supply systems
