Practical study excursion to Lusatia: visit to LEAG's Schwarze Pumpe power plant
On July 17, 2024, 20 students from the Mechanical Engineering (Energy Technology) and Renewable Energy Systems degree programs visited the Schwarze Pumpe power plant operated by Lausitz Energie Kraftwerke AG (LEAG).
In addition to two exciting specialist presentations, including one on the energy-economic evaluation of CHP plants, the students were given a unique insight into the dimensions and processes of a large-scale plant. LEAG's site development in Lusatia was also presented. In addition to the development of a hydrogen supply system for local public transport in Cottbus, the construction of a floating photovoltaic system on the Cottbus east lake (post-mining lake of the former Cottbus-Nord open-cast mine) was also presented. Both projects, as well as many others, are unique in Germany.
The students were able to gain a good insight into the necessary measures and framework conditions for the energy transition in Germany.
