The IF covers all manufacturing processes and techniques classified according to DIN. This enables interdisciplinary research and a very broad education to be offered, incorporating the latest developments, with a focus on primary and forming technology, assembly and joining technology as well as laser and surface technology.

We mainly offer courses in mechanical engineering/production technology and mechatronics. Future industrial engineers and materials scientists also receive part of their training at the IF. The latest research and development results are presented to students with the aid of state-of-the-art multimedia technology.

The Institute of Production Engineering IF is formed by the merger of currently four+1 professorships, which are active in various specialist areas of production engineering.

Forschungsschwerpunkte sind u.a. die Fügetechnik, Schraub- und Klebverbindungen sowie die Umformtechnik. Einen wichtigen Bereich nehmen die Lasertechnik, das Gebiet der Zerspan- und Abtrenntechnik sowie die Verfahren der Oberflächen- und Beschichtungstechnik ein. Messtechnik und Nanotechnologie ergänzen das Forschungsfeld.
