Installation for the quality assurance of micro tools
- micro tool inspector-
Machining procedures are increasingly applied in the field of micro processing. A faultless condition of these tools is an absolute requirement for the guarantee of the process` quality. Due to the small size, failures lead to the rejection of the corresponding component.
One crucial cause for failures are damaged tools. Such defects might be either deviations in the tool`s geometry or cracks in the tool`s surface. Consequences of these deviations are damages which occur during the operation and might thus lead to failures.
Objective of this project is the estimation of the tools with respect to their usability. Thus , form deviations and cracks on the tool should be recognized with the smallest occurrence of 1 µm.
The device has to be applicable under standard workshop conditions and must not be more expensive than 25 000€.
We realized two different variations.
In the first variation the tool is measured by transmitted light procedure. Here, the tool is lighted with a homogenized and collimated light beam and examined with a microscope objective from the opposite side. The focus section can be adjusted in such a way that it is in the center of the tool. Additionally, the tool can be adjusted correspondingly to the measuring purpose.
The second variation applies the incident light procedure to detect deviations. Here, the tool is measured section by section and evaluated by algorithm to focus areals and subsequently composed to a three-dimensional model. The calculated model can be provided with depth information so that a determination of possible deviations can be taken.
