NEFM Strategy Meeting
NEFM Strategy Meeting at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden
On March 10, 2026, this year's strategy meeting of the Chair of Computational and Experimental Solid Mechanics (NEFM) took place at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden. The event provided an excellent opportunity to discuss current developments, strategic topics and future research and teaching perspectives together.
The day began with a welcome address and a review of the year by Prof. Markus Kästner, who summarized the Chair's key highlights and progress over the past year. This was followed by field reports on the practical application of AI systems in everyday scientific and organizational life. In particular, the potential in research, self-organization and administration was highlighted.
A central point of the program was the session "AI in teaching". In group work, the participants discussed how AI skills can be taught effectively, which adjustments to teaching content are necessary and how AI can be integrated profitably into courses. The results were then presented in plenary and reflected on together.
In the afternoon, the focus was on the strategic development of the Chair. Possible future projects were identified under the topic of "Linking MAR/ZEU" and challenges in the coupling of measurement data and numerical simulation were discussed. Other focal points were the identifiability of model parameters and the question of the practical simulability of complex systems.
In addition to the technical discussions, the closed meeting also provided space for informal exchanges - for example over lunch and a walk in the large garden. The event concluded with a presentation of the results, an open discussion round and a joint dinner.
The closed meeting once again underlined the interdisciplinary orientation of the NEFM and the importance of continuous exchange for the further development of research and teaching.
