Chair of Chemical Process Engineering Receives an Award from the Lausitzer Braunkohle Foundation
Winners of the funding awards presented by the Stiftung Lausitzer Braunkohle.
On September 24, 2026, the Stiftung Lausitzer Braunkohle honored outstanding projects and students committed to supporting children and young people, particularly in the fields of environment, technology, natural sciences, medicine, and social cohesion.
The Chair of Chemical Process Engineering at TU Dresden impressed the jury with its project “Wirbeln für die Lausitz” (“Fluidization for Lusatia”), securing second place and funding of €5,000.
The award supports the development and use of a mobile fluidized-bed system designed to provide school students with engaging and interactive insights into the world of engineering. At the heart of the project is popcorn production: Using this familiar everyday example, students can explore process engineering principles in a playful and hands-on way – engaging not only with the technology but also with all their senses.
Through workshops and events, including activities at secondary schools in Lusatia, the mobile system aims to spark students' interest in engineering, introduce them to the Process Engineering degree program, and highlight the diverse career opportunities available in the Lusatia region.
In this way, the project combines hands-on science communication with regional STEM outreach, demonstrating that process engineering can be not only exciting but also delicious.
