Brief description:
The substitution of fossil fuels with solid fuels of biogenic origin or residual and waste materials from the circular economy holds great, previously untapped potential. Since the fuel properties of substitution fuels differ significantly from traditional fuels of fossil origin, fast and reliable methods are needed to characterize the ignition and combustion behavior. The focus here is on the reaction kinetic parameters, which are used for modeling and designing burners and combustion chamber systems.
The aim of the project is to investigate the ignition of dust clouds of biogenic fuels using spectroscopic methods and to determine reaction kinetic parameters from the recorded measured values in conjunction with CFD modeling. The newly developed method will be tested by validation experiments on the 50kW dust firing system of the energy process engineering department.

External project partners
The project is being implemented at the site of the project partner Nagel Ingenieurbau Schwarze Pumpe (NISP, https://nagel-ib.net/). The Chair of Energy Process Engineering and NISP are working closely together in the planning and design phase of the pilot plant. NISP also provides support in the construction and commissioning of the pilot plant and in the systematic analysis of fuels. NISP will develop a service concept for the market launch of the analysis method during the course of the project.
