Process and Natural Materials Engineering (VNT) - Winter Semester
Course Descriptions (VNT) - Winter Semester
Introduction to process engineering and natural materials technology
The course is designed to introduce the student to the typical ways of thinking and working in thermal process engineering. Knowledge and skills are imparted on material and energy balances, on the modeling of selected heat and mass transfer processes and on the description of the state of humid air, as they are used as a basis for the design of simple apparatus. Differential consideration of micro processes and integral description of process units complement each other. The focus of the presentation is on process models. They are extended by models and principle descriptions of simple apparatus and plants.
Heat transfer and mass transfer
Contents of the module are the fundamentals of heat and mass transfer for transient heating and cooling, processes with phase transformation (melting and solidification, evaporation, film and droplet condensation, drying), as well as analogies of heat and mass transfer (diffusion and convective mass transfer).
Mechanical and thermal process engineering - basic processes Thermal process engineering
The course imparts knowledge and skills on fluid-fluid and solid-fluid mass transfer processes, especially on process and apparatus design in the fields of evaporation, distillation and rectification, convection drying, absorption, adsorption and liquid-liquid extraction. The presentation is limited to two-substance systems and provides typical graphical, analytical, and numerical solution procedures. A flash dryer with ancillary equipment is to be designed in a complex document.
Energy Process Engineering - Thermo-economic Modeling
The students have knowledge of methods of heat integration and their implementation in equipment. The thermodynamic fundamentals, the systematic planning procedure and the economic evaluation or optimization of the energetic process integration are in the foreground. The students are able to calculate temperature profiles in single and multi-component systems with and without phase transformation and, on this basis, to minimize exergy losses using the pinch-point method. The students are able to network apparatuses of mass conversion and heat transfer in order to achieve an integrally optimal apparatus and plant configuration.
Environmental Protection - Studium Generale
Global, regional and local environmental problems, basics of environmental engineering for air pollution control, waste treatment, recycling and water treatment, production and product integrated environmental protection, ecological balancing, environmental protection in companies.
Environmental Process Engineering - Seminar Environmental Process Engineering
The seminar serves to deepen knowledge in the field of waste management technology. Within the seminar, lectures by staff members on relevant research work of the chair as well as guest lectures on political, organizational and technological aspects of waste disposal are offered. In addition, there is the possibility, in consultation with the lecturer, for listeners to give lectures on tasks they have worked on that are relevant to the topic.
