Content of the course
Tissue Engineering (TE) is the production of living human or animal tissues outside the body for therapeutic or research purposes. The content of the course is to teach the basics of this still young but rapidly developing field of research at the interface between engineering, life sciences and medicine. Topics covered include the following:
- Introduction and definitions, biological basics
- Biomaterials (scaffolds) for TE
- Cells for TE and immunological aspects
- TE of bone and cartilage
- TE of blood vessels and cardiovascular tissues
- TE of skin
- Cell culture techniques and mechanical stimulation of TE constructs
- 3D bioprinting
Internship by arrangement in the lecture-free period (only compulsory for students of the Material Science degree program)
Compulsory elective course for the Material Science, Bioprocess Engineering and Textile Technology degree programs
Students from biology, chemistry, medicine or other subjects are very welcome!
