Research at the Institute of Materials Science
As an important center of Materials Science and Materials Engineering in Germany, the Institute of Materials Science is shaping the modern age of digital Materials Science in close cooperation between the Dresden University of Technology and non-university research institutions. The Institute of Materials Science at TU Dresden plays an active role both in research and teaching.
Research at the Institute of Materials Science
The Institute of Materials Science stands for basic and application-oriented research in materials science and materials engineering. A wide range of polymeric, ceramic and metallic materials, their synthesis and manufacturing processes as well as their properties and, last but not least, their influence in a targeted manner by the manufacturing processes are researched.
Together with partners from science and industry, findings are generated and technical implementations developed that make an important contribution to solving major social challenges - from medical technology to mobility and energy technology: the availability of customized materials and material systems determines the speed of development of innovations everywhere.
Especially against the backdrop of the current global crisis, the availability of materials is increasingly becoming the focus of interest. In terms of a resilient supply of raw materials, we will have to focus on the circular economy more than ever before. Material Science can make valuable contributions here.
