Important position in the National Coalition Material Science and Technology
The general meeting of the National Coalition Material Science and Technology (BV MatWerk) with its base in Berlin unanimously voted Prof. Christoph Leyens from the Institute for Materials Science to be over the next two years the deputy chairperson. The chair is taken over by Prof. Wolfgang Kaysser, Science-Engineering Director of the Helmholtz-Centre Geesthacht. The general secretary position stays with Prof. Pedro Portella from the Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin. In his first reaction to the vote Prof. Leyens said “Materials are often the hidden innovation driver of today. As the mouthpiece of the sector the National Coalition Material Science and Technology can deliver important stimulus to society and I will happily serve to strengthen this”.
The National Coalition Material Science and Technology (BV MatWerk) is a union of societies and associations in the field of material science and technology in Germany. MatWerk grew out of the knowledge that a better coordination is required of the many activities in the field of material science and engineering. In this way the importance should be conveyed of material science and engineering for the development of modern society.
In agreement with their members the BV MatWerk is active in particular in the following fields within the sector materials science and engineering:
- Disclose research needs through discussions with science, industry and society.
- Interdisciplinary connections in research and development
- Encouragement of young people in science and industry
- Development of international co-operation
- Strengthening of the public perception of materials science and engineering
