The lecture Construction Materials for general machine construction delivers knowledge about the behaviour of metallic construction materials under quasi-static and cyclical loads as well at various temperatures. The students will learn methods which can be used to influence material properties, in particular thermal treatments and the effect of accompanying elements and alloy materials. The important iron materials, steel and cast iron, form a central part of the lecture series and the accompanying tutorials because they are the construction materials that fit the requirement of a large range of applications due to their weldability, machinability, workability, castability, high stability as well as adjustable ductility.
