MIRA-model in notchback-configuration and trailer with rounded front
Travelling in mobile homes has become even more popular throughout the months of the CoViD-19 pandemic. However, the bodies of these vehicles are quite voluminous and can cause a lot of aerodynamic drag. Concerning climate conservation as well as the properties of electric propulsion, all kinds of drag become more and more important. Combinations of towing passenger cars with trailors are particularily challenging to aerodynamisists because of the many means of interaction between the two components.

After preliminary numerical investigations wind tunnel tests have been conducted including the MIRA-model in two configurations (sedan and station wagon) and a caravan with two different front sections. This shall be the basis for further research activities in cooperation with the chair of automotive engeneering.
