Merry Christmas

Aerodynamic measurements of a Christmas star
The Chair of Flight Mechanics and Control wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The structure shown was actually used to determine aerodynamic loads and the dynamic behaviour of a Christmas star in the wind. It is quite an interesting object in this respect, which does not show any Re-number dependence due to its delicate structure, but which reacts clearly directionally due to the arrangement of the spikes. The dynamic behaviour was only characterised by periodically occurring, very slight prancing at speeds of up to about 110 km/h.
