Within the LuFo-Project UrbanSens possibilities to operate small UAV (delivery drones) efficiently in an urban environment using the local wind field are investigated. Long term experience in the field of environmental aerodynamics is utilized to determine local flow phenomena in generic urban models. These are built up the same way in the wind tunnel as well as in numerical simulation using LES. The recent windtunnel campaign aimes on the determination of local wind vectors and turbulences along the possible trajectory of a UAV.
