The Chair of Machine Tool Development and Adaptive Controls, headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Steffen Ihlenfeldt, conducts DFG projects as well as AiF, BMBF and BMWi research projects together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU. Close cooperation exists with several university research institutions and a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the machine tool industry. In addition, the chair promotes the international exchange of students and doctoral candidates.

Science

The chair cooperates with renowned scientific institutions - including the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU, the Machine Tool Laboratory WZL at RWTH Aachen University and the Chair of Materials Science (TU Chemnitz).

Industry

There is close cooperation with a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the machine tool industry - for example with NILES-SIMMONS Industrieanlagen GmbH, Robotron Datenbank-Software GmbH and Starrag GmbH.

International affairs

The chair supports the regular exchange of students and doctoral students at foreign universities. Cooperation is currently in place with the University of Naples Federico II and the Beijing Institute of Technology.

Funding organisations

Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU, the chair carries out a large number of projects which are supported by funding bodies such as the DFG, the BMBF, the BMWi and the AiF.

The chair is not only networked with experts from science and industry, but is also a member of various research associations.

Cooperation of the chair

The Chair for Machine Tools Development and Adaptive Controls under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Steffen Ihlenfeldt maintains a close personal connection to the Department of Cyberphysical Production Systems (CPPS) at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU.

Together, they carry out basic research-oriented DFG projects as well as AiF, BMBF and BMWi research projects. There is also close cooperation with several university research institutions and a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the machine tool industry. The third-party funds raised with the research projects amount to approximately 2 million euros annually.

The regular exchange of students and doctoral candidates at partner universities abroad – including the University of Naples Federico II in Italy and the Beijing Institute of Technology in China – is also supported and maintained by the chair.
