International cooperation for sustainable packaging solutions
The BIOMOPAC project team visits project partner Parason Machinery India Pvt. Ltd.
At the beginning of February, René Kleinert, a member of the Chair of Wood Technology and Wood-based Bioeconomy at TU Dresden, was a guest at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee.
The aim of the visit: The further development of the cooperation in the field of pulp and paper technology, which has existed for over 15 years, as well as the intensification of joint research activities in the context of sustainable packaging solutions.

International Symposium on Innovations in Molded Fiber Products (03.02.2026)
The Chair was represented with two presentations:
- "Dry Molding of Agricultural Residues for Sustainable Packaging Solutions - A Direct, On-Farm Processing Approach" (Alexander Pfriem & Holger Unbehaun)
- "High-Yield Pulping Strategies for Agro-Residues in Molded Fiber Packaging" (René Kleinert)
The focus was on innovative processes for the use of agricultural residues for resource-efficient, recyclable packaging products.
BIOMOPAC project
The visit was also an important part of the German-Indian research project BIOMOPAC. The aim of the project is to develop bio-based, fully recyclable packaging solutions from agricultural residues.

Long-standing partnership & scientific exchange
The cooperation with IIT Roorkee is characterized by continuous knowledge transfer, joint research activities and the regular supervision of final theses by Indian students at the Chair of Wood Technology and Wood-Based Bioeconomy in the field of paper technology.
In addition to the professional program, the stay offered intensive opportunities for personal exchange and discussion of future joint projects.
We look forward to continuing this successful German-Indian cooperation and to new impulses for sustainable, bio-based packaging technologies.
We would like to thank our project partners IIT Roorkee, Parason Machinery, Bionatic, Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy for the trustful and close cooperation as well as the Indo-German Science and Technology Center (IGSTC), the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Department for Science and Technology (DST) for funding the project.
