Aim
After the harvest, large quantities of hop bines remain unused in the fields. The BioHOCOEX project is researching how this biomass can be utilized for the plastics industry. The aim is to develop a technological processing chain suitable for industry in order to use the hop plants in plastic compounds for injection molding and extrusion applications. ATB Potsdam is providing the process engineering basis for the project with an alternative supply chain using hop bines to be preserved in a moist state. TU Dresden and TU Chemnitz are preparing the fibers into compounds with different filling levels, processing them in the plastics processes and producing the first demonstrators.
