Probabilistic Lifetime Assessment of Turbine Blades
M. Voigt, R. Mücke, K. Vogeler
This paper presents an introduction into probabilistic design methods and their application to the lifetime analysis of turbine blades. As an example, a probabilistic design approach to a cooled turbine blade is applied. The loads of the blade are simulated using a full 3D finite element model. In particular, the influence of the scatter in material data, uncertainties in the thermal loading and manufacturing tolerances are taken into account. As a result, the scatter of low cycle fatigue (LCF) life due to the stochastic variables as well as the sensitivity of the design is presented.
