Active participation of TU Dresden in the 10th World Water Forum
The TUD Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) played an active role in the 10th World Water Forum, which took place from May 19 to 24, 2024. The event, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity", drew global attention to urgent water issues and sustainable practices. Under the leadership of TU Dresden, the Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre - ABCD-Centre, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office, was involved from the outset and made an important contribution to meaningful dialogues and solutions.
The Forum saw overwhelming participation. Despite occasionally overcrowded rooms, the high number of participants was a positive sign of global engagement on water issues. Prof. Daniel Karthe (United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Flows and Resources - UNU-FLORES) and Dr. André Lindner (TU Dresden) led numerous insightful discussions, focusing on various efforts related to global water security. They also identified potential applicants for the postgraduate programs at the Center for International Postgraduate Studies in Environmental Management (CIPSEM) at TU Dresden.
During the event, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at TU Dresden emphasized its support for youth engagement initiatives. A highlight was the establishment of a new "Center of Excellence for Water and Climate Resilience" in Indonesia with supporting input from CIPSEM and the ABCD-Centre. Discussions covered topics such as education, nature-based solutions and capacity building for institutions and professionals. Dr. Lindner appreciated the lively exchange of ideas and collaborative spirit in the sessions on these important topics.
By the close of the forum, over 30,000 registered participants from 172 countries had attended. The event ended with a reaffirmed commitment to shared prosperity through sustainable water management practices.
TU Dresden's participation in the 10th World Water Forum underscores its commitment to addressing global water challenges through education, research and international cooperation. The University looks forward to continuing its efforts to promote sustainable development and resilience in the face of climate change.
