Career Counseling, Professional Development, and Networking on the Path to a Professorship
The YOUProf program supports junior professors, professors, and group leaders on tenure track, as well as visiting professors, on their career paths at TU Dresden through centralized counseling and comprehensive services.
Personalized Counseling and Services
To provide you with the best possible support, we accompany you from the start of your position through to your appointment to a tenured professorship or other subsequent positions.
To this end, we offer regular counseling sessions focused on your individual career development.
Together with you, we develop a personalized support plan, which we discuss with you regularly and adjust on an ongoing basis.
We utilize both internal and external services to put together a customized package for your career support.
Our services include:
- One-on-one consultations: Confidential discussions to address individual questions, develop solution strategies, and plan and facilitate opportunities for your career path
- Training and coaching programs: Programs tailored specifically to you to enhance your skills and professional development
- Peer mentoring: Opportunities to exchange ideas with peers and work together to tackle challenges along your career path
- Mentoring: Support in organizing your personal mentoring with experienced mentors to advance your personal and professional development
- Online resources and information tools: Provision of guides, materials, checklists, and FAQs covering topics such as career paths to a professorship and internal evaluation procedures
Our consulting program focuses on the following key areas:
Your Academic Work
- Leadership and Management / Role Definition: Support in assuming leadership and management roles, as well as in clarifying your role.
- Research, Teaching, and Knowledge Transfer: Guidance in securing and implementing research projects, developing your research profile, designing teaching strategies, structuring exams, interacting with students, and engaging in knowledge transfer activities.
- Administrative Tasks and Committee Work: Support in understanding internal university structures and processes, as well as in actively participating in committees.
- Professional Career: Advice on internal career development and formal status changes, e.g., a change of institution.
Your Professional Development
- Career Planning and Development: Strategic planning for the development of your academic profile, building a network, and increasing your visibility.
- Professional Development: Planning for professional qualifications, continuing education, and coaching, as well as support for engaging with peers and mentors.
You and Your Family
- Personal Development: Support in balancing professional and personal demands.
- Work-Life Balance: Counseling on mobility, child care, and caring for family members.
- Legal and Administrative Issues: Clarification of questions regarding employment contracts, evaluation policies, and internal administrative guidelines and processes, etc.

Confidentiality: All concerns are treated with the utmost confidentiality. If it is helpful for finding a solution to involve other parties in the counseling process, this will only happen with the consent of the person seeking advice.
