Historical Acoustic-Phonetic Collection

Voice Mechanics for the Articulation of “Papa / Mama”, around 1910
The collection contains about 600 historical instruments, models and teaching aids from the field of education and research in electroacoustics, speech recognition and speech synthesis, and serves to document the development of experimental phonetics and speech technology since the end of the 19th century. It has been expanded considerably in recent years by acquisitions originating mainly in Berlin and Hamburg. The collection’s records are still actively used in teaching and research and are published in a collection catalogue.
