A Rush of Visitors at the Beyer Building: A Successful Open Monument Day
Once a year, on Open Monument Day, historic sites open their doors to the public. A special attraction at TU Dresden this year was the newly renovated Beyer Building.

There was great interest in the historic building: Even before the official opening at 10 a.m., the first guests were waiting at the doors to take a look inside the modernized building. For former students in particular, the day offered an opportunity to return to their former place of study and see how “their” Beyer Building has changed.
The four guided tours offered received a very positive response.
The Beyer Building has always been closely linked to education and research in Civil Engineering and remains the Faculty of Civil Engineering’s headquarters to this day. So it was only natural that the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering personally guided the groups through the building. She provided in-depth insights into the architecture and the construction method—using reinforced concrete, which was revolutionary for its time in 1913.
The program was rounded out by a campus tour focusing on the Nazi history of the Dresden University of Technology, led by Dr. Hagen Schönrich.
