S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o: Online Colloquium "Echoes of Tomorrow" on February 23, 2026 - Carolyn Kirschner "There Is No Such Thing as a Fish"
As part of the European Union–funded project S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o, in which the Office for Academic Heritage (Kustodie) of TUD participates alongside international partner institutions, we are continuing our online colloquium series “Echoes of Tomorrow.” In monthly sessions, artistic research projects are presented that emerge in close collaboration with partners from science, technology, and industry.
The second session will take place online on Monday, 23 February 2026, at 5:30 pm (CET) and will focus on the project “There Is No Such Thing as a Fish” by our residency artist Carolyn Kirschner (Goldsmiths, University of London).
In conversation with Carolyn Kirschner, Ivo Sbalzarini (TU Dresden / MPI-CBG), and Fiona Raby (Dunne & Raby), questions concerning model organisms, the physics of life, and artistic-scientific practices from the perspectives of design and architecture will be explored. The discussion will be moderated by Matt Ward (Goldsmiths, University of London).
We warmly invite you to participate. Please register via the link provided; the Zoom access details will be sent to you upon registration.
Starting from the zebrafish as a model organism in biomedical research, Kirschner traces its trajectories through laboratories, data infrastructures, and evolutionary-biological narratives. The project reflects on the role of the model organism in the search for physical laws and mathematical descriptions of life. By interweaving film, speculative anatomical modeling, and artistic research, Carolyn Kirschner’s practice shifts the boundaries between human and non-human bodies.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to interested colleagues.
We look forward to a stimulating interdisciplinary exchange!
