ICOM-UMAC and UNIVERSEUM at TU Dresden
From September 24th to 29th, 2024, TUD Dresden University of Technology welcomed ICOM-UMAC and UNIVERSEUM European Academic Heritage Network, two influential associations focusing on university collections and academic heritage, on its campus. Following an online meeting held in 2021, for the first time they came together on site for an international conference hosted by the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections of TU Dresden.
In accordance with the overarching topic "Shaping Transformation. University Collections in a Changing World", experts and professionals from all over the globe discussed the impact of transformation processes on university collections and academic heritage. Three sub-topics guided through the one-week event:
1. University Collections and Museums addressing Challenge and Transition
2. Activating University Collections for Research and Teaching in Times of Change
3. Academic Heritage Institutions as Places of Exchange and Discourse
A multifaceted program offered panels and roundtables alongside workshops and working groups, inviting all participants to open dialogues across disciplinary and geographical boundaries. Collection visits and two specifically curated exhibitions illuminated the rich culture of TU Dresden and other academic institutions in the city. A number of high-profile cooperations enriched the program and opened a perspective to broader contexts.
The organizers warmly thank all involved colleagues for their presence and contribution!
