Tasks and projects
The IT Department of the Faculty of Medicine provides traditional IT services and develops innovative solutions based on open source technologies. We provide basic IT support for departmental administration and, with our extensive specialist and process expertise, we collaborate with users to advance digitalization in the administration of teaching and research. Services such as the e-learning system Moodle and the survey tool eSurvey are used by the entire Dresden University Medical Center.
Core Tasks and Priorities
A. Digitalization of Administration
• Introduction of digital workflows and a document management system
• Establishment of interfaces between leading systems
• Introduction of the use of AI tools
B. Digitalization of Teaching
• Operation and further development of systems to support teaching, such as the ePortal information platform and the Moodle eLearning system (approximately 1,000 courses – 50% MF, 35% CarusAkademie, 15% UKD)
• Organization and tablet-based implementation of OSCE examinations
• Development/design/operation of evaluation systems in teaching
• Introduction of a new timetable system for all degree programs
A. Databases, Reporting, and Workflow Systems
• Design, further development, and operation of a system for recording performance in research and development (basis for awarding LOM)
• Provision of a survey system based on eSurvey (approximately 400 surveys, 30% MF, 70% UKD)
• Introduction and maintenance of the ethics pool of the TU Dresden Ethics Committee • Mailing list system for large groups
• Database for study schedules
B. Development of innovative IT solutions
• Design and implementation of new IT solutions, mostly using open source technologies (Linux, Python, Zope/Plone, JavaEnterprise, etc.)
• Development of interfaces and collaborations
• Transformations and aggregations of data from various systems
C. Basic support
• Primarily for the Medical Department Administration and the Ethics Committee
• Operation of a computer pool for teaching
D. Coordination of collaboration with IT-related institutions and representation on TU Dresden committees
