Equal parental leave starts with a good plan - and sound knowledge.

The decision to have a child has a major impact on the financial situation of mothers. Almost all gender gaps increase when a couple becomes parents, with the gender pay gap rising from 9% from the age of 30 - women become mothers at an average age of 30.3 - to up to 28%. The lifetime earnings of mothers are 61% lower than those of non-mothers or men. With an average income, we are talking about a loss of around half a million euros in salary due to the decision to become a mother. All this leads to financial dependency for mothers, and also for fathers (who often bear the "financial load" of the family largely alone), and above all to above-average numbers of women in poverty in old age.
