What does “toxic masculinity” actually mean? What privileges come with masculinity, and how do male-dominated power structures and gender roles shape our society, workplace, and culture?
The lecture “A Limit on Men Instead of a Quota for Women? — Men’s Cliques, Male Fantasies, and Critical Masculinity” by Christoph May, taking place on September 15, 2026, starting at 1:00 p.m., invites you to critically reflect on common notions of masculinity and discuss their impact on issues such as diversity, equality, and inclusion.
Using examples from politics, business, the media, and pop culture, the talk will examine images of men, male power structures, their representation, and their societal consequences. The lecture is open to people of all genders and aims in particular to encourage men and those socialized as male to engage in a critical examination of gender roles.
Participants will also receive recommendations for books, music, comedy, TV shows, and movies, as well as a collection of video essays on the topic.
