Our mission statement

General Practice, as an independent medical discipline, not only stands at the heart of forward-looking, patient-centred care, but also plays a key role in medical education, research, and postgraduate training. Our goal is to prepare aspiring physicians — in a hands-on, scientifically grounded, and innovative way — for the challenges of primary care today and tomorrow. High-quality and efficient patient care is always at the centre of our work, both in the local context and with regard to global challenges. Our vision is to actively shape an evidence-based and participatory primary care of the future, in order to address societally relevant issues and take on social responsibility.

Teaching with Vision

Through modern and interactive teaching and learning formats, we foster clinical critical thinking, general practice competencies, and interprofessional collaboration — and, together with more than 200 dedicated teaching practices, we provide early, hands-on insights into the diversity of general practice medicine. Our focus is on the longitudinal integration of General Practice throughout the curriculum — from the first semester through to entry into the profession. Every future physician — regardless of the specialty they choose — must know and understand the approaches of general practice in order to ensure high-quality medical care for patients in the future.

Research with Relevance

Our research is grounded in the realities of healthcare delivery. Together with trained practice teams from the Saxon Research Practice Network (Forschungspraxennetz Sachsen, SaxoN), we develop practice-oriented, sustainable, and user-centred solutions for needs-based primary care, addressing topics such as thyroid disease and cardiovascular prevention. We also investigate cross-setting data models for the healthcare of the future, in cooperation with the Data Integration Centre (Datenintegrationszentrum, DIZ). The development of research ideas, interventions, and study designs is carried out participatorily with all stakeholders — including a patient advisory board and a practice advisory board — to ensure needs-orientation, acceptance, and feasibility.

Postgraduate Training with a Future

We continuously support and promote the next generation of general practitioners — from medical school through to specialty training. At the Competence Centre for Postgraduate Training in General Practice Saxony (Kompetenzzentrum Weiterbildung Allgemeinmedizin Sachsen, KWASa), we offer structured mentoring, collegial exchange, and targeted support on the path to a career in general practice. Together with partners such as the Postgraduate Training Network Carus Consilium Sachsen (Weiterbildungsverbund Carus Consilium Sachsen, CCS), we are shaping an innovative, high-quality approach to postgraduate medical education.
