Introducing Saxon University Medicine: First Parliamentary Breakfast of the University Hospitals of Dresden and Leipzig

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at TU Dresden Esther Troost (front) with the Board of Directors of the University Hospitals of Dresden and Leipzig.
At the first parliamentary breakfast of the two university hospitals in Dresden and Leipzig on April 7, members of the Saxon state parliament discussed the challenges and opportunities as well as economic and location factors of university medicine. The major common goal is to provide long-term, sustainable healthcare that is available to all people in urban and rural areas.
Every day, 17,000 employees at both sites and 7,500 students and trainees strive to provide this care at the highest level. In future, the two university hospitals will have to take on even greater responsibility in securing and restructuring healthcare, for example in shaping the coordination role in the course of the hospital reform - and together with Chemnitz Hospital, represent the whole of Saxony.
The two medical faculties are primarily concerned with excellent teaching and training of future doctors and scientists as well as internationally pioneering research. Above all, these projects require reliable, binding and long-term support from Saxony's state politicians, as the boards of the university hospitals and the deans of the faculties emphasized.
