First SaxoCancer call for applications open – apply by August 15!
The SaxoCancer Tandem Digital Clinician Scientist Program is a cross-location research and qualification program of the Medical Faculties of Leipzig and Dresden. SaxoCancer promotes physicians doing research in cancer medicine and working on digital, data-driven, and innovative therapeutic approaches.
Prof. Uwe Platzbecker, Medical Director of Dresden University Hospital, who launched the program, introduces SaxoCancer:
How did you come up with the idea of setting up a joint Clinician Scientist Program between Dresden and Leipzig?
Through my medical and scientific work in both Dresden and Leipzig, I know both locations very well and value their expertise in cancer medicine. University medicine in Saxony has enormous potential in this area and we are keen to give young talents with innovative ideas the opportunity to develop clinically and scientifically. I hope that the tandem partners can benefit from each other and create and use synergies - also for collaborations beyond the program.
What does the ideal SaxoCancer Fellow look like?
The program is aimed at physicians in specialist training or who have already started or are planning additional training. There should be an interest in technical-digital topics that will be advanced by the tandems as part of the joint research project with a clear focus on application in cancer medical care. The aim of a possible spin-off is also very welcome. Otherwise, the formal criteria include a completed doctorate and a proven interest in scientific work through publications in the subject area of the program.
Is the overall goal of the program to intensify cooperation between the locations?
Absolutely! University medicine in Saxony is generally striving to grow even closer together and to cooperate. The potential for synergies and the benefits for both sides are enormous, especially in the area of highly specialized and innovative approaches. Cooperation between the locations can develop new solutions through joint spin-offs in the field of digital medicine and thus hopefully create sustainable added value.
