Together against tuberculosis: Successful meeting of the TAT network at TU Dresden
The participants of the TAT network meeting from Dresden, Giessen and Heidelberg.
The network meeting of the "Together-Against-Tuberculosis" (TAT) project took place in Dresden on November 28 and 29, 2025. Volunteer support is at the heart of this initiative: TU Dresden students accompany tuberculosis patients during their complex treatment, be it to appointments with doctors, the health or social welfare office. This project is currently supported by MeDDrive of the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine and makes a decisive contribution to patient care. The project is funded nationwide by the Federal Ministry of Health as part of the TB-no1lost project.
What made the meeting special was the German-wide exchange: in addition to the Dresden team, colleagues from the partner sites in Giessen and Heidelberg also attended. The program offered a successful mix of science theory and practice. The participants heard exciting contributions directly from the field, including from Prof. Anna Kühne (Chair of Public Health at TU Dresden), Prof. Michael Knipper (Global Health, Justus Liebig University Giessen) and Dr. Cornelia Breuer (Tuberculosis Prevention, Dresden Health Department). These inputs gave the students new perspectives and strengthened the professional basis for their voluntary work.
The open exchange between the project locations was particularly productive. A joint database will be set up in order to improve cross-location coordination in the future and ensure the transfer of knowledge.
Project manager Dr. Henna Riemenschneider emphasizes the central role of the students: "This project thrives on the commitment of the students. They are not only bridge builders between patients and the healthcare system, but also multipliers for a greater awareness of social determinants in patient care."
The TAT project team is looking forward to implementing the collected ideas in the new year. New students and interested parties are also welcome to join the project at any time: .
