TU Dresden's Senate elects new Vice-Rectors for the 2025–2030 term of office

At its public meeting on July 9, 2025, the Senate of TU Dresden elected the new Vice-Rectors of the University Executive Board for the term of office from August 18, 2025 to August 17, 2030. The Senators with voting rights elected the Vice-Rectors proposed by the Rector from among the members of the university.
For the new term of office, the Rector has further developed the structure of the Rectorate and proposed four Vice-Rectors with newly defined responsibilities for election. There will no longer be an “Extended Rectorate.” Based on Section 110, Paragraph 1, Sentence 2 of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) – the experimental clause – the number of Vice-Rectors can be determined by the university.
“We are very pleased that the Senate has placed its trust in the Vice Rectors I proposed. This new University Executive Board team will enable us to strategically develop our TUD over the next five years,” emphasizes Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of TUD. Election officer and TUD Chancellor Jan Gerken adds: "I would like to thank all members of the Senate and the Academic Committees for their participation in this important election process and would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the elected Vice-Rectors on their new or continued term of office.“
The election results in alphabetical order:
Prof. Lars Bernard, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Vice-Rector Digitalization and University Development
Lars Bernard has been teaching and researching at TUD since 2007, and has been Chair of Geoinformatics since 2015. Since 2020, he has been Chief Officer Digitalization and Information Management (CDIO) at TUD and a member of the Extended University Executive Board.
He comments on his new role: “Digitalization is relevant to all areas of our university and we can only succeed if the added value, responsibilities, and processes are clear and if there is a willingness to change. The same holds true for university development.”
Prof. Roswitha Böhm, Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, Vice-Rector University Culture and Internationalization
Roswitha Böhm has been Chair of French Studies at TUD's Institute of Romance Studies since 2014. She has been Vice-Rector for University Culture since 2020 – the first person to hold this position at a German university.
On her re-election, which includes expanded responsibilities, she comments, “The strategic development of university culture and internationalization continues to play a key role at TUD, as both areas of activity are essential for successful cooperation in research, teaching, and administration. It is equally essential that we jointly assume responsibility for values associated with this—cosmopolitanism and diversity. In my new term of office, I will dedicate myself to ensuring that these two crucial priorities continue to bolster our excellent science and the associated environment.”
Prof. Niels Modler, Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Vice-Rector Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning
Since 2013, Niels Modler has held the Chair of Function-Integrative Lightweight Engineering at TUD's Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering. Since 2015, he has been a Senator and Spokesperson for the university lecturers' group.
He comments on his new task: “I am grateful for the trust placed in me and am very much looking forward to my new role as Vice-Rector Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning. Along with my colleagues and the staff of the Student Services departments we will continue to advance teaching – in a well-founded, real-world, and sustainable way geared towards the future, and in dialogue with our students.”
Prof. Angela Rösen-Wolff, Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine, Vice-Rector Research and Technology Transfer

We will work hand in hand and continue to strengthen TUD as a regionally anchored and globally active university."
