Knowledge platform on digitalization in medicine published

There is a lot of information about digital health services and digitalization in medicine online – but how do you find quick access to serious and scientifically proven content? This is exactly where the MiHUBx knowledge platform comes in. It is aimed at both patients and the general public, as well as medical professionals. It offers tailored information for all of these target groups in order to increase their digital health literacy.

The platform was created as part of the MiHUBx (Medical Informatics Hub in Saxony) project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). To date, it is the only platform in the German-speaking world for various target groups with this range of topics. The knowledge platform was conceived, developed and designed at the Center for Medical Informatics (ZMI) in Dresden by Caroline Glathe and Sophia Grummt.

"Our aim is for patients to find their way around the digital health world - in other words, to identify reliable information, use digital services and thus actively shape their own health," emphasizes Caroline Glathe. Sophia Grummt adds: "Digital health literacy is equally relevant for healthcare professionals. It allows them to use digital technologies safely, provide patients with competent support and take the initiative to train themselves further with the goal of quality-assured, future-proof care.

Accordingly, there are two separate areas for patients and healthcare professionals:

Increasing the digital health literacy of patients

The platform aims at increasing digital health literacy among the general population. In the "Knowledge - Patients" section, target group-specific information is prepared in an understandable way and provided in the following categories:

• Basic knowledge: Introduction to the digitalization of the healthcare system in the form of a question-and-answer principle
• Digital (health) literacy: assistance in assessing the quality of health information on the internet, self-tests to assess your own digital skills, examples of initiatives to strengthen digital health literacy
• Health portals: Links to trustworthy sources of information, including information portals and websites on the topic of health and digitalization in healthcare, including data protection and security
• Further training: References to free (further) training courses focusing on digital health, artificial intelligence and data (literacy)
• Podcasts: Podcast recommendations on current topics in medicine/digitalization

Content for healthcare professionals

The MiHUBx knowledge platform also provides digitization-specific content for medical professionals. The "Knowledge - Medical Professionals" section offers in-depth information on:

• Digitalization in healthcare: Answers to questions about digitalization in healthcare
• Info pages for doctors and medical staff: links to specialist and information portals on topics such as telematics infrastructure, digital transformation in healthcare, data protection and security and digital health applications
• Health research and research data: Information on the use of health data in research, including guidelines, checklists and advice services
• Further education and training: Offers for expanding knowledge and professional qualifications on digitalization in medicine
• Podcasts: Podcast recommendations on relevant medical and digital topics

In addition, there is a common glossary for both target groups with technical terms from the School of Medicine, medical informatics and digitalization - simply explained.

MiHUBx is one of six funded Digital Progress Hubs for Health in Germany. All hubs pursue the common goal of advancing digitalization in the healthcare sector by making data from various areas of care usable for research and practice. At the same time, each hub sets individual priorities based on regional circumstances and specific healthcare needs.
