Background and objectives
Health and continuous, local healthcare provision are proven to be prerequisites for a perceived high quality of life. It is therefore crucial for healthcare planning and for regional development in Saxony on the whole to gain the best possible knowledge of the perception of healthcare provision among the population, as well as their wishes and requirements regarding the healthcare system. However, neither of those factors is currently being systematically recorded and therefore not taken into account in healthcare planning. Researchers at the Center for Evidence-Based Health Care in Dresden and Chemnitz would like to change this. As part of a large-scale, regularly conducted survey (a so-called panel), we aim to interview a representative sample of citizens at regular intervals on the following topics:
- perceived health status
- perceived burden of disease, especially from chronic diseases
- perceived quality of healthcare and expectations towards it
Research Question
The overarching research questions of GEPASA areas follows:
- What is the relationship between perceived health status, the quality of healthcare and quality of life?
- Do individual (health) behavior, utilization of health care facilities, medical diagnoses, work environment and socio-demographic factors influence the perception of health status, quality of health care and quality of life?
- How do perceptions of health status, quality of healthcare and quality of life change over time?
Utilization of results
The data from the panel can be used as a basis for systematically deriving healthcare goals and target-group-specific, regionally appropriate prevention measures and interventions to maintain or improve the quality of healthcare in the region.
