„cardiac surgery in experimental setups - science and practice“; practical training

In the practical training "cardiac surgery in experimental setups - science and practice" for students of the medical faculty methods in experimental research to investigate multiple aspects of tissue pathogenesis are teached and discussed. The isolation of cells from porcine or human aortic valve tissues and the culture of these primary cells, analyses of molecular biology such as immunofluorescence microscopy or western blot and the histological verification of extracellular matrix components are focussed. In addition the utilization of porcine and bovine pericardium for the fabrication of aortic valve bioprostheses and the pretreatment of the xenogeneic material is introduced. The application-oriented, translational research in the subject cardiac surgery is the main topic implementing basic methods in molecular biology and discussion of current literature in the field in a literature seminar given by the students themselves.

In the winter semester 2025/2026 the practical training "cardiac surgery in experimental setups - science and practice" will take place from 26.02. to 06.03.2026.
