NKLM (National Competence-Based Learning Objectives Catalog for Medicine)
The NKLM defines competencies that are based on the professional profile of a doctor and should be present upon graduation from medical school. Competencies are understood as cognitive abilities, psychomotor skills and professional attitudes that enable problem solving. The necessary learning content is taught and practised in various learning contexts and depths of competence (factual, practical and reasoning knowledge, practical competence) during the course of medical studies. In the future, scientific principles and clinical content will be linked (even) more interdisciplinarily on the basis of organ-specific diseases and taught together during the course of medical studies. For further information, we recommend the explanatory videos of the Medical Faculty Association (MFT) on the NKLM.
The NKLM 2.0 was further developed together with the IMPP's competence-oriented subject catalog (GK) for the state examinations. The contents of both catalogs are coordinated at regular intervals in the sense of "constructive alignment". The content of the NKLM 2.0 is currently being revised and formally finalized. The aim is to improve clarity and reduce complexity. The NKLM 2.1 should be available to all faculties from 06/2026.
The nationwide process of NKLM implementation at the faculties is being supported and moderated by the MFT. This required the appointment of mandated representatives at each faculty, the NKLM faculty representatives, for cooperation with the MFT. Through them, a working group consisting of various representatives was established at our faculty in 2021.

The NKLM Implementation Working Group of the MFD is mandated by the Faculty Board to shape the implementation of the NKLM at our faculty. The working group sees itself as a strategic steering committee that structures and coordinates the process. It organizes concrete project planning, ensures an efficient communication strategy and coordinates the work of thematic project groups that deal with specific sub-projects of the overall process. In addition, the working group advises the decision-making bodies of the MFD on necessary changes to the curriculum that will result from the requirements of the new ÄApprO and the further developed NKLM. You can find an overview of the working group's tasks here and further information in the ePortal.
