2nd KIMed Network Partner Forum in Dresden
KIMed Network Partner Forum in Dresden: Prospects for AI in Medicine in Saxony
The second Network Partner Forum of the KIMed Network project took place on April 30, 2026, in Dresden and was organized and hosted by the Center for Medical Informatics Dresden.
KIMed – Network for AI in Medicine is a joint project of the University of Leipzig, the Center for Medical Informatics, TU Dresden, and Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, and aims to establish a high-performance network for artificial intelligence in medicine in Saxony.
The event focused on current developments and prospects for the use of AI in healthcare. Under the title “KIMed Forum – Perspectives for AI in Medicine in Saxony”, three renowned experts provided insights into their work:
- Tjalf Ziemssen, Director of the Center for Clinical Neurosciences and the MS Center Dresden, presented an innovative approach to personalized care with the “digital MS twin”.
- Jan-Niklas Eckardt, Co-Group Lead for AI in Hematology at the EKFZ Dresden and Co-Lead for “AI in Cancer,” highlighted the role of AI in oncology.
- Valentin Forch from the Chair of Artificial Intelligence at Chemnitz University of Technology presented approaches to local language models using the example of outpatient psychotherapy.
In the subsequent panel discussion, the presented content was contextualized within the KIMed network together with the participants. It became clear that successful AI applications in medicine do not emerge in isolation, but are based on interoperable data infrastructures, suitable framework conditions, and close collaboration between healthcare, research, and industry.
The forum also offered extensive opportunities for exchange and networking. Particularly encouraging was the broad participation of representatives from academia, industry, and politics, as well as from the participating project partners and Dresden University Hospital. The intensive dialogue underscored the shared interest in creating sustainable structures for the development and transfer of AI applications into medical care in Saxony.
With the Network Partner Forum, KIMed is taking another step toward establishing a regionally anchored yet internationally connected innovation ecosystem for artificial intelligence in medicine.
Special thanks for organizing and executing this successful event go to the team of Marcel Dilje, Dr. Eveline Prochaska, Dr. Claudia Heine, Karolin Hofmann, and Dr. Kathrin Sobe:
