Book Publication on Digital Interface Management in Health Research
Researchers from the Institute for Medical Informatics and Biometry at TU Dresden and the Data Integration Center of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus (NUM DIZ) have contributed to two chapters of the newly published book “Digital Interface Management in Healthcare – Interprofessional Solutions for Challenging Interfaces.” Their contributions address key questions of modern, cross-sector healthcare and situate them within current developments in medical informatics.
The edited volume focuses on the ongoing challenges at care interfaces along the patient journey. Despite differences in healthcare sectors and professional groups, similar structural problems frequently emerge, requiring systemic solutions. At the same time, digital technologies offer new opportunities to rethink care processes across institutions and sectors and to shape them sustainably through appropriate transformation strategies.
Through their contributions, the researchers contribute their expertise particularly in the areas of data integration, data science, and artificial intelligence.
In the chapter “Data Integration” (authors: Michele Zoch, Dr. Jens Weidner, Dr. Ines Reinecke, Prof. Dr. Martin Sedlmayr), the challenges and concepts involved in integrating heterogeneous health data are explored. The chapter demonstrates how integrated data structures form the foundation for seamless information flows, improved decision support, and advanced data-driven applications in both research and healthcare delivery.
The chapter “Rethinking Interfaces: Do AI and Apps Lead to Patient-Centered Care?” (author: Dr. Markus Wolfien) examines the role of digital applications and AI-based systems in fostering more patient-centered care processes. It discusses both the potential benefits and the organizational and structural requirements associated with implementing such technologies.
