Dr. Markus Wolfien at TEDx Dresden
What an inspiring evening at TEDxDresden!
On March 27, 2026, the focus at the mightyTwice Hotel in Dresden was not only on the exchange of ideas – but also, among other things, on the question of how innovative approaches from medical informatics can concretely contribute to improving patient care.
Representing us on site: Dr. Markus Wolfien, Head of the Data Science & AI research area, and part of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII).
In his talk “Precision Becomes Personal – The Patient Voice in the Molecular Tumor Board,” he impressively demonstrated how two current MII projects are rethinking oncology:
🔹 PM4Onco – Personalized Medicine for Oncology
→ with a focus on the molecular tumor board as a place for data-driven therapy decisions
🔹 MiHUBx – an interdisciplinary data space for healthcare applications
→ as a foundation for the intelligent networking and use of medical data
At the center of his presentation was a key set of questions:
How can we better integrate the personal life situation of patients into clinical decision-making, give those affected a stronger voice, and thereby improve patient empowerment?
His approach: systematically make patient reports visible and integrate them into data-based decision-making processes – in order to enable not only more precise, but also more individualized therapies.
In addition to the content-related impulses, the evening itself was characterized by a special atmosphere:
A sold-out hall, intensive discussions, interactive formats, and a noticeable resonance from the audience made it clear how relevant and accessible topics in medical informatics are today.
TEDxDresden once again demonstrated how important it is to make scientific work visible beyond its immediate context and to bring it into societal dialogue.
We thank all participants for organizing this extremely successful event and are pleased that ZMI and MII, represented by Dr. Markus Wolfien, were able to be part of this exchange.
