New publication in PLoS ONE
Researchers from the IMB have published a new article on „Computational gene expression analysis reveals distinct molecular subgroups of T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia“ in PloS ONE. This work was done in the frame of our ERANET-PLL project together with partners from Cologne and Leipzig. The first author of the study is Nathan Mikhaylenko, who works as postdoc in this project under supervision of PD Dr. Michael Seifert and Prof. Dr. Ingo Roeder.
We analyzed molecular data of T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL), which is a rare blood cancer with poor prognosis. We revealed three robust T-PLL gene expression subgroups with a hierarchical clustering approach. An in-depth characterization of these new T-PLL subgroups identified similarities and differences at the level of individual genes, signaling and metabolic pathways, and associated gene regulatory networks. The three T-PLL subgroups were further validated based on independent T-PLL patients. Our study contributes to an improved stratification of T-PLL and the specific characteristics of the subgroups could help our partners to find urgently required treatment strategies.
