Project Launch: NUM^OHDSI Connect Strengthens International Networking in Medical Research

As of April 1, 2026 the project NUM^OHDSI ^Connect – Internationalization in Medical Research has officially launched. The aim of the initiative is to strategically expand the international networking of the German research landscape and to strengthen its integration into global research initiatives.

Coordinated by the Technical University Dresden, the project brings together the Network University Medicine (NUM) and the international open science community OHDSI (Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics). This creates a transatlantic collaboration framework designed to sustainably foster exchange between German and North American partners. The focus lies on establishing joint structures and formats for international collaboration. Through co-creative exchange formats such as study-a-thons and site visits, methodological and organizational foundations are developed, enabling the German research community to actively participate in international studies and projects.

A particular added value of the project lies in the systematic integration of existing NUM infrastructures with international standards and networks. This will create the long-term conditions necessary to implement data-driven research efficiently and in a coordinated manner across national borders.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) as part of the funding initiative BMFTR INITIATES: Research with North America and makes an important contribution to the strategic internationalization of medical research in Germany.
