Sophia Grummt und Dr. Elisa Henke auf der MIE (v.l.n.r.)
Record linkage and user-friendliness in the focus of the ZMI scientists at the MIE in Glasgow
Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) 2025 - the central event for European medical informatics - took place from 19-21 May in Glasgow, Scotland.
In line with this year's slogan „Intelligent health systems - From technology to data and knowledge“, experts from all over Europe and the USA came together to discuss current challenges, the latest developments and forward-looking solutions in digital healthcare.
Our research assistants Dr. Elisa Henke, one of the heads of our Interoperability research area, and Sophia Grummt, a member of the MiHUBx project, represented the ZMI at the event and provided insights into their current research activities:
Dr. Elisa Henke presented her work on record linkage in the OMOP Common Data Model, outlining the technical challenges of linking patient data across multiple OMOP databases using the example of harmonised German clinical and billing data.
She emphasised record linkage as an essential process on the way to creating richer, more complete datasets that enable better secondary use of health data.

Sophia Grummt gave a presentation with a medical informatics and ophthalmological background: She presented her research team's approach to designing and creating a dashboard user interface prototype to support ophthalmologists in the treatment of patients with diabetic macular oedema.
The topic is part of MiHUBx Use Case 1 and is primarily concerned with the usability of the dashboard. To ensure user-centricity, the Dresden ZMI team has been working closely with the practising ophthalmologists at Chemnitz Hospital (SKC), which also acts as a project partner, from the outset.
