Key themes in this research group
The research of Occupational Medicine, Social Medicine and Public Health is dedicated to the prevention of diseases with a wide range of scientific methods (qualitative surveys as well as analytical case control studies and control studies as well as cluster randomized RCTs). The focus is on common diseases relevant to public health: musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, cancers and mental illness. In addition to etiological research, health services research - especially health services research in a professional context - is also of particular importance: the professional setting offersa an important starting point for disease prevention and health promotion for broad sections of the population. However, there are still substantial gaps in knowledge regarding the actual effectiveness of concrete preventive measures in the professional context.
Last but not least, the social understanding of "work" is currently undergoing rapid change. The keywords here are flexibilization, precarization, work intensification, activation and dissolution of boundaries. We ask ourselves what kind of preventive medicine and public health-related or social concepts this change requires.
The results of our research activities can be found in the publications of RS1.
